Why a refinished desk beats a new one
A new solid-wood desk commonly runs $500–$1,200. The new desks most people buy for $150–$250 are particleboard — they sag in the middle, the drawers are stapled, and the finish peels where your coffee sits.
Ours are vintage solid wood, refinished by hand: dovetail drawers, level tops, and character no catalog sells — for $149–$199. Painted pieces include matching touch-up paint on request.
What to look for in a used desk
- Kneehole clearance — roughly 24 inches of leg room underneath, and width for your chair.
- Drawers that glide — the center drawer takes daily use; check every one.
- A level work surface — no warp, no dip in the middle.
- A sturdy stance — a desk shouldn’t rack when you lean on a corner.
- Scale for the room — vintage desks run smaller than modern ones, which suits bedrooms and apartments.
- Dual-purpose potential — a good desk makes a great vanity or entryway table too.
Every desk we sell has been cleaned, repaired as needed, sanded, primed, painted (or the wood finish renewed), and sealed — ready to work the day you bring it home.
