Why a refinished buffet beats a new one
A new solid-wood sideboard commonly runs $800–$1,500 or more. The $300 lookalikes at the big stores are particleboard under a wood photo — fine until a holiday dinner’s worth of dishes tests the shelves.
Ours are the real thing: solid wood, dovetail drawers, doors that hang true, built decades ago and refinished by hand. Better furniture than new, for less than new — most of ours run $299–$599. Painted pieces include matching touch-up paint on request.
What to look for in a buffet or sideboard
- A flat, level top — it’s a serving surface first; check for warp and wobble.
- Doors that hang even and close cleanly on their hinges and catches.
- Shelves that carry weight — stoneware and serving platters are heavy; solid wood shelving matters.
- Drawers that glide — silverware drawers get opened daily.
- Real wood backs and sides, not thin cardboard panels.
- Bonus features — pull-out serving trays and lined drawers earn their keep at the holidays.
Every buffet we sell has been cleaned, repaired as needed, sanded, primed, painted (or the wood finish renewed), and sealed — ready for its first dinner party.
